Yesterday, I was on a train ride from Van Buren to up north in the mountains. (The train was seen in the movie "Biloxi Blues." Most of that movie was filmed in Van Buren and Fort Smith.) On the way, we were told that when the track was built in the 1880's, there had been an outbreak of small pox and more than 100 workers died. They said that the people were buried in a mass grave by the track. Many years later, the grave was found and two crosses were put there. This photo was taken as we passed by.
